ALERT LEVEL 1 – WATCH THIS SPACE!
President Cyril Ramaphosa has suggested that Alert Level 1 could be coming soon.
Due to the flattening of the curve of infections and the readiness of the health system to deal with the new cases of COVID-19, Health minister Zweli Mkhize says that debates are ongoing about the move to less stringent restrictions on citizens.
A few hints as to what may come in Alert Level 1 have been dropped due to the Extensive discussions across many mediums.
Most of all businesses have been opened already, including restaurants, construction companies, leisure accommodation and beauty services (hair salons and Spas). Our
real restrictions are still not being able to move around at night for no good reason, large events, visiting nightclubs and the percentage of employees allowed back at work.
Both the curfew as well as restrictions on the late-night entertainment are under discussion of being lifted; at least on weekdays. Weekends might still hold a ban on alcohol sales. There is likely going to be an opening of South Africa’s Borders, however there are arguments about fear of new strains of COVID-19 entering the country along with the visitors. A couple more changes at Level one could be the easing of the COVID-19 Procedures, i.e., the filling in of records; as well as allowing spectators Sports Events as long as strict social distancing is kept.
Mia Lindeque from Eyewitness News wrote, “Ramaphosa is expected to chair a virtual meeting with the President’s Coordinating Council (PCC), which would discuss the latest on COVID-19. It is believed that the possibility of relaxing some lockdown regulations to level one could also be discussed.”
This meeting should take place tomorrow(16 September 2020), watch this space!
