Cosatu’s Collective Congress ran at Emperors Palace from 12 to 14 October 2026. GLA provided the event safety services for all three days.

An event like this runs on its safety paperwork before a single delegate arrives. Our job was to make sure that paperwork was done, written down and followed on site.

What GLA delivered

GLA delivered four things:

  • Event risk assessment. We identified the hazards at the venue and the risks to the people attending, and set out how to control them.
  • Written event safety plan. One document that sets out how the event stays safe, who does what, and what happens when something goes wrong.
  • Event safety officer. A named officer on site to apply the plan as the event ran.
  • Medics. Medical cover on site for the full event.

Why SASREA matters

The Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act (SASREA) sets the rules for events in South Africa. It asks organisers to assess risk, plan for it in writing, and have the right people and medical cover on site.

That is why the four items above go together. The risk assessment feeds the safety plan. The safety officer applies the plan. The medics cover what the plan cannot prevent.

Organisers who leave this late carry the problem into event week.
