POPIA – READINESS PLAN
The information regulator has published a Readiness plan for the implementation of POPIA.
This plan will give a basic idea of what the Information Regulator plans to do to be ready for the guidelines within POPIA.
It would be beneficial to you to know what the information regulator is planning to do over the next 12 months as this will help you with getting your own organisation ready. i.e. their plan can be used to assist with the development of your own.
Some understanding of the Plan:
- Who is the Information Regulator?
The Information Regulator is the body of people who control and implement the Protection of Personal Information Act – they are who you would contact if someone has broken laws within the POPI Act.
- What is the objective of POPIA?
In laymen’s terms, the objective of the POPI Act is to keep Data Subjects’ personal information safe. It is there to make sure that businesses are handling personal information in the correct way.
