Gintan Luthuli Associates provided event safety and compliance oversight for Safety 2026, the 16th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion, held from 1 to 4 September 2026 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
The conference was hosted by FPD and the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC), and co-sponsored by the World Health Organization. It ran under the theme Ubuntu: United for a Safer Future, bringing together delegates from across the injury prevention and public safety sector for four days of sessions, exhibitions, and networking across the CTICC’s Global Village and conference halls.
Scope of work
GLA’s role covered the compliance foundation that a conference of this scale requires:
- Event risk assessment
- Safety planning
- Permits
- On-site security and medical coordination
Work was carried out against the requirements of the OHS Act and SASREA (Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act), the two frameworks that govern safety compliance for public gatherings of this type in South Africa.
Why this matters for large-scale conferences
A multi-day international conference brings together large delegate volumes, multiple session venues, exhibitions, and a public-facing registration and networking area, all under one roof. Each of these creates its own risk profile: crowd movement through registration and exhibition zones, emergency egress from packed session halls, and coordination between venue security, medical response, and event organisers.
